Originally started by Abigail (Paul) Westbrook in November of 2007, GreaThings is little tradition that happens each November here on beautifulsong.com. It is one of my favorite parts of blogging each autumn!
I love reading about all the greaThings you share each year. It is a perfect opportunity to put life into the perspective of gratitude, and to identify our blessings, even the ones that looked like raindrops.
Join us again this year for a special 12 day gratitude challenge you can share on any of your favorite social media outlets.Â
The Challenge
There is so much to be thankful for every year, but we often let the crazy, busy moments of everyday life distract us from even noticing all those special moments. I believe gratitude can change our lives for the better. It’s about so much more than a random list of happy things at Thanksgiving time, but it’s a good place to start a habit that I hope will carry with you through the rest of the year, too.
GreaThings is about taking some time to be purposeful about thanking God for specific blessings that He has given us–in a more public way than our morning prayers or private journals. It is about learning to look back and see His hand both in the good days and the not so good days, and sharing with others so they can be inspired to create habits of gratitude in their lives as well. It is such a privilege to be able to take time to notice how God takes care of us all year long and be thankful about it, and this is an exercise to help form habits of intentionally counting your blessings every day. Hopefully it’ll be fun, and creative too!
When & Where
Some of us have made it a habit of joining together for a few days in November to take a look over the year that has just past and thank God for some of the blessings — the “great things†— that He has done and is doing in each one of our lives. It is a perfect opportunity to put life into the perspective of gratitude, and to identify our blessings and His hand in our lives, even during the moments that are difficult. GreaThings will be hosted on BeautifulSong.Com again this year, and will run for 12 days
This year, 2016, it will start on November 12th and go through the 24th. I will be mostly using Instagram and Facebook to participate in the challenge, but there’ll be at least one fun post here, too. Mark your calendars!
How it’s Done
There are lots of ways you can participate. Here’s a few ideas. Pick which one works best for you!
- Use the graphic below to inspire daily posts and use the #GreaThings hashtag to connect with the GreaThings community! Feel free to use these prompts for blog posts or social media posts across your favorite platforms. I’m going to be taking GreaThings to Instagram this year, and I can’t wait to get creative and share some glimpses into my year with you there!
- If you have a blog and want to stick with the original style of GreaThings feel free to follow this original list of suggestion. You can comment on any of my blog posts with a link to your posts so that we can all follow along too!
- If you don’t have a blog, or don’t want to do daily social media posts, Â you can leave a comment on my posts with what you are thankful for!
-  Or if you’d like, join in on your favorite social media platform. Be sure to use the hastag, #greaThings,  so we can all follow along and be blessed by all the praises.
Who it’s For
Being grateful isn’t something that’s restricted to November or to those who celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving is for everyone, no matter what latitude or longitude we happen to call home. We’ve all been blessed, so let’s all join in this month of taking time out to be intentional in thanking God for all that He’s done for us this year. It isn’t restricted to bloggers, or tweeters or instagrammers (although it makes it more fun if there are lots of us doing this together!). Join in however works for you, wherever you are.
