GreaThings 2012: Lyrics

I’ve always felt as if the language of my heart, more than just words, is poetry. The deepest emotions I feel through the rhythm of a poem. Perhaps it is this that makes the words to songs so special. Here’s one that has been sung often this year. The words capture exactly what I’ve experienced in my life. These are words of courage, and beautiful promise.

He Giveth More Grace

He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials He multiplies peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

what I’ve been called to do

I feel quite sure if I did my best
I could maybe impress you
With tender words and a harmony
A clever rhyme or two.
But if all I’ve done in the time we’ve shared
Is turn your eyes on me
Then I’ve failed at what I’ve been called to do

Will you love Jesus more
When we go our different ways
When this moment is a memory
Will you remember His face
Will you look back and realize
You sensed His love more than you did before
I’d pray for nothing less
Than for you to love Jesus more

May this always be THE reason I keep writing.

If you just smile

You’ll find that life is still worthwhile…If you just smile.

even when it feels like just exhaustion and a long to do list that make you feel a touch blue, there’s more power to those smiles than we can ever really know until we get to the end of the day and find that it was indeed a beautiful day.

Perfect Peace

“Though I may not

calm the storms around you…

and though this life is hard

Know that I will always give you perfect peace”

and you’ll never be alone.

a prayer for the new year

This is my prayer tonight and for this year to come

O let me walk with Thee, my God,
As Enoch walked in days of old;
Place Thou my trembling hand in Thine,
And sweet communion with me hold;
E’en though the path I may not see,
Yet, Jesus, let me walk with Thee.

I cannot, dare not, walk alone;
The tempest rages in the sky,
A thousand snares beset my feet,
A thousand foes are lurking nigh.
Still Thou the raging of the sea,
O Master! let me walk with Thee.

If I may rest my hand in Thine,
I’ll count the joys of earth but loss,
And firmly, bravely journey on;
I’ll bear the banner of the cross
Till Zion’s glorious gates I see;
Yet, Savior, let me walk with Thee.

{HOPE} somebody bigger than you and I

This weekend, singing these words was putting hope to music.

Who made the mountains, who made the trees
Who made the rivers flow to the sea
And who sends the rain when the earth is dry
Somebody bigger than you and I
Who made the flowers to bloom in the spring
Who made the song for the robins to sing
And who hung the moon in the starry sky
Somebody bigger than you and I
He lights the way when the road is long
He keeps you company
And with His love to guide you
He walks beside you
Just like He walks with me
When I am weary, filled with despair
Who gives me courage to go on from there
And who gives me faith that will never die
Somebody bigger than you and I
Bigger than you and I

GreaThings 2011: lyrics of my year

GreaThings 2011

If you haven’t already, check out the introduction to GreaThings 2011, and consider joining us by sharing what you are thankful for and the blessings you’ve been given this past year!

the lyrics of my year

This year has been a year of looking back and looking forward. Of thanking Him for the ways that He has shaped our journey, and trusting Him that tomorrow, He will make a way. I’ve had occasion this year to reflect on the closed doors, and the times that God said “no” to some of my biggest dreams, and realize that He knew what He was doing. And to say thank you “for the things you never gave me”. I didn’t always understand the reasons why He said no then, or why He sometimes says no now. Standing in the darkness, crying out to Him to help me to not dishonor Him by failing to understand what He was doing, hearing the words of a song that spoke what my heart didn’t know how to say about His blessings, and finding in it encouragement to embrace our raindrops together, it has been quite a year. But, the one thing that I’ll remember about 2011, is God’s faithfulness and that no matter how dark those clouds are, the sun is still shining.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep

We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering

All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things.

Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears

What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near

What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near.

We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough.

All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe.

Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears

What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near

And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise.

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win

We know the pain reminds this heart
That this world is not our home.

And what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears

And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life

Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy

And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise.
