Today is the last official day of GreaThings 2010, but check back tomorrow, on Thanksgiving day, for one more post and for the chance to share what you are particularly thankful for this holiday season!
What I’m thankful for today:
Today I am thankful for my family; for these amazing people that God has brought into my life and given me to love and to share memories and happy times with.
I’m thankful for my parents. They didn’t do everything right, and they weren’t perfect. But they gave us a better life and a better childhood than they had, and they stuck it out in the hard times. They’ve been married for 34 years and counting. They taught us to love God, to love hard work, and to make the best of what we had. I’m thankful for all the time they spent with us as children, and all that they sacrificed to raise us the best they could.
I’m thankful for my husband. Of all the people in the world, I can’t imagine anyone I would rather spend my every day with than with Him. He is my best friend, my confident, my companion, my mentor and I love him more than I could have dreamed possible, and feel so incredibly blessed to spend every day with my best friend. We talk together, laugh together, work together and have more fun than should be allowed two people. I could go on and on listing all the reasons that I love him, and that I’m thankful for him, but I’ll spare you all the mushy details. I am so very thankful that God brought him into my life. The time was perfect, the way was perfect, and I have no regrets. Plus, my family loves him and having their support and approval at every step of the way has been such a huge blessing to us.
I’m thankful for my siblings. As the middle child, I had the best of both worlds and was very close to both of my siblings growing up. The happy thing is, we’re still close…even when miles separate us, and things are hard. I’d always wished for a larger family than our cozy family of five. As we grew up and got married, I gained a whole passe of new siblings and it has been another happy thing in my life. I now have 7 brothers and 6 sisters, and I’m thankful for each one of them, and their uniqueness and varied characters and qualities give me much to ponder and much to smile about.
I’ve been spoiled when it comes to sisters. One is my own, special little sister. From the moment I met her as a newborn, I loved her and tried to take care of her. I annoyed her with my attentiveness, but we grew up close anyways. Being so far apart has been one of the hardest, most continually painful things of my present. Two of them are childhood friends, one of whom married my brother and the other and I married brothers. Things like this do happen outside of storybooks sometimes! The others I now count as good friends, and each and every one has a special place in my heart. We’re all so different. We all come from different places, have different struggles. Sometimes this doesn’t make blending completely easy, and miles make investing a lot of time hard at times… but I’m so thankful that my dream of being close to my new sisters has become a reality. I hope and pray that we’ll always be close…and grow closer and closer each year. So to Jennie, Alicia, Katie, Alina, Kandace and Carissa: Thank you for bringing so many smiles and happy memories and moments into my life. I love you all!
I’m thankful for my heart friends, too. I won’t name them here…and it would be impossible to accurately list the many people who are a part of my life in one way or another who make it brighter and better for being there.
And, because it ties in. I’m thankful for skype and google talk. They make it possible to create a bridge of sorts across the miles and help me to be able to communicate with my far-away family and friends with out breaking our little budget or relying solely on written words. I love nothing better than a real letter, but I happen to know that if that was the only thing that I had to go by, I would possibly never hear from many family members and that would be terrible.
So I’m thankful for these technologies that keep me connected with the people I love and who mean so much to me.
