What I’m thankful for today:
I’m thankful for new things.
New Mornings. New Seasons. New lessons. New books (that are usually really old books that have a new home on my shelves). New friends. A new home.
I’m thankful that we serve a God who can make things new again…give us new hearts, new motives and new desires and thoughts.
And I’m thankful for precious new life.
In the past year, my family has added a new generation to its numbers in the form of beautiful, precious little ones. And this post is for them.
From the first time my brother in law put a bundled in my arms and I looked into the pudgy little face of my first newborn nephew, Avidan I fell in love. With the tiny oh so adorable face (and the little eyes that kept peeking out at me when I talked) and with being an auntie. I’d held and loved babies before, but there was something different about looking into the little face and feeling a bond that was greater than with any other little one I’d held before, because this was my nephew. This was the baby I’d been excited to meet from the first days of marriage when I heard that he was going to be our Thanksgiving present. The baby I’d talked to, and watched grow inside his mommy. And then a few weeks later when he smiled at me for the first time when, I was absolutely convinced that there wasn’t anything like being an auntie.
Knowing that we wouldn’t be able to watch him grow up made moving this far away so very hard!
But, we arrived just in time to welcome the second little one, Shayla Marie. She was so tiny and had so many family features, and loved to hear mom sing “Pop goes the Weasel” when she was cranky. Living here has meant that I get to see her every couple weeks, and watching her grow has been so special. She has so much personality, so much mischief and the most endearing smiles and has made me love being Auntie even more.
Little Josiah was born to my sister in the Philippines in September. I don’t know if I’ll ever meet him, but I get to see pictures sometimes, and even see webcam once in a while and he is cute as can be and I love him already, even if I never do meet him. He is my sister’s baby, after all!
So…this year, I am thankful for each one of these little ones. For the changes they’ve brought and the happiness they bring all the time.
(I’m also thankful for the new life that God has blessed my friends’ with, too. You people make the cutest babies, you know.)
