Reading Challenge 2012: may checkpoint

I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I just have to say it. Where on earth did May go and can we stop the clock for a little while?

I’m serious. I can’t think of a reason in the world why May had to race by like it did. Except, perhaps that scientific one that says that time actually goes by faster when you get older. But…since we’re not here to discuss time and scientific reasons, let’s get to the books.

In May I had a reasonable amount of time for reading, but I didn’t make the most of it. I spent a lot of time playing with my niece and reading books about Biscuit the Puppy and his day on the farm, and about Biscuit and the New Baby, and a lot of time out in my garden. I don’t regret any of those things! I think I was having a sort of an anti-reading month. But, I did finish off a couple of the books on my list in spite of my ill use of reading time.

I reviewed one of those books here already. It was an excellent book, and I recommend it as a way to think a little bit deeper this summer. (And I’m still looking for a reading partner, if any of you want to take me up on that.)

The second one sounded so good from the title, but I was a little disappointed in the depth of the content. I’ll be reviewing it later this week (hopefully!) and will give you the whole scoop then.

My reading widget kindly says that I’m 4 books ahead of schedule. With a small nephew due any day, and a whole lot of crazy going on in our days right now, I think I’m going to need all the “ahead” I can get over this summer!

I still have several books in my stack from last month that I’m working on. And –I’m taking those ones about writing super slow. Don’t be surprised if they stay in my stack until December. I also have added a new book to the stack though. It’s called Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. If the back cover is any indicator, it’ll be another gem! Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to start it soon. I’m aiming to start it before the month is out.

So…how was your May? I’m looking forward to hearing about what you read and about how your season is going!

As always…If you aren’t currently a part of Reading Challenge 2012, take a peek at the official guidelines and see if you want to jump on in and join us. We’re always happy to have new friends!

  1. I can’t even remember if I’ve read any new books since my last post here, with the exception of one yesterday (3rd June) – a Christian childrens fiction story with a good lesson. Mostly re-reading.
More time spent spinning and knitting… as well as looking after my animals – winter feeding (being in the southern hemisphere)!

    • Oh, I think re-reads are as important as new reads! :) And …I’ve always wanted to try spinning. :) Maybe someday!

  2. I’ve been reading bits and pieces here and there but didn’t manage to finish a book in May. Hoping to finish it in June though :)

  3. When I came to link up my May update I noticed that I never posted my April link… though I wrote a post… so I linked it up today. I was 10 books ahead at the end of May… I am 12 books ahead now.
